The obverse of this diobol from the Greek city of Taras (Roman Tarentum, today’s Taranto) in southern Italy depicts the goddess Athena with a helmet.
The reverse of this coin shows the hero Hercules wrestling with the Nemean lion. This lion was a creature that, according to Greek mythology, struck terror throughout the Peloponnesus.
