Ancient Coins
Symbols have been used to represent pride in ancestry and community since ancient times. It was one of the great preoccupations of the Greeks and this pride extended to their minting of coins. Ancient Greek coins reflected their attachment to mythology (Alexander as Heracles and wearing the pelt of the Nemean Lion over his head), punning allusions to the name of a city (the rose of Rhodes), devotion to a particular deity (Artemis in Ephesus), or represent some remarkable aspect of local life. In addition to Greek coins we feature Roman, Byzantine, Medieval, Renaissance and Spanish Colonial Coins. In keeping with the authentic character of individual coins, the mountings are custom made for each coin. We do not polish the coin, cut it, or force it into a pre-made setting. All the coins are authentic.
