The obverse of this Milesian coin from the early 2nd C. BC features the profile head of the beautiful god Apollo. Apollo was the god of the Sun, of prophecy and of the healing arts. His name was the same for both the Greek and Romans and he was the principal god associated with the Muses and the arts. The reverse of this coin is the typical symbol of Miletus—the lion looking back at a star.
